If you think an engineering degree only prepares a student to be an engineer think again.

Jackson dentist, Dr. Jeff Hartsog, and Mississippi Power Company's manager of community services, Chuck Ueltschey, would beg to differ. Both are graduate engineers who are now successfully working in other fields.

Their preparedness to switch to other careers is supported by the dean of Mississippi State University's College of Engineering, Dr. Wayne Bennett. "Engineering is an excellent background for other fields," be said. "Engineers are well disciplined, have excellent study skills and know how to focus their attention."

He said many graduate engineers go into technical sales and to medical, dental and law school. Biological engineers have a 90% acceptance rate to medical school.
