William Nelson, a former clerk for Judge Edward Weinfeld, now holds the Edward Weinfeld Professorship of Law at NewYork University. A more sympathetic biographer for the judge would be hard to imagine, and Nelson's reverence for his subject shines from every narrative page in this book: not blindly, but with respect for the achievements of a remarkable human being.
Judges are difficult subjects for biographers. They do the hard part of their work inside their minds, and they tend to lead placid lives. While there are exceptions, Weinfeld was not one of them. His life followed the usual trajectory of law school, law practice, political activity, and judicial appointment.
