The U.S. Supreme Court heard legal arguments last week in an eminent domain case brought by a group of 2 New London homeowners that could have far-reaching effects for municipalities that wish to use the condemnation power for economic development.

Municipal use of eminent domain for economic development has been successfully challenged in Stamford and Bridgeport in recent years. A Norwalk case related to the city's planned Reed-Putnam development is on the state Supreme Court's docket for this spring.
