Japan's customs-cleared trade surplus dropped 16.3% in November from a year earlier to 498.26 billion yen, falling for the 17th consecutive month, the Finance Ministry said Thursday.

Exports fell 9.1% to 3,892.24 billion yen and imports declined 8.0% to 3,393.99 billion yen, the ministry said in a preliminary report.
