TOKYO, Dec. 17 Kyodo

Share prices on the Tokyo Stock Exchange closed sharply lower Monday, with the Tokyo Stock Price Index (TOPIX) of all First Section issues finishing at a new low for the year on lingering fears of corporate credit risks.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average plunged 188.30 points, or 1.79%, to close at 10,323.35.
