Share prices on the Tokyo Stock Exchange closed lower for the third straight trading day Tuesday due to weakness in U.S. stocks and concern over credit risks, with the Nikkei Stock Average slipping below 10,500.

The 225-issue Nikkei lost 97.10 points, or 0.92%, to close at 10,473.91, finishing below the 10,500 level for the first time since last Tuesday. The broader Tokyo Stock Price Index (TOPIX) of all First Section issues fell 8.65...
