TOKYO, Dec. 4 Kyodo

The Nikkei Stock Average closed higher Tuesday as investors moved in for buybacks thinking there would be no more bad news after Moody's Investors Service Inc. downgraded its credit rating on Japanese government bonds.

The 225-issue Nikkei grew 82.03 points, or 0.79%, to close at 10,452.65. The broader Tokyo Stock Price Index (TOPIX) of all First Section issues shed 0.91 point, or 0.09%, to 1,028.50.
