Struggling to rebound from last year's tech wreck, which saw the demise of many dot.coms and the evaporation of venture capital funding, companies on the Silicon Prairie are looking for a leader to guide them out of the wilderness.

Boeing-with bulging venture capital coffers and strong technological credentials-might just be that trailblazer.

The challenge facing local inventors, tech firms, consulting groups and universities is to develop innovations that will grab Boeing's attention, and ultimately, secure its backing. Boeing executives say they will be reaching out to the area's high-tech community.
