After being branded a sinner for years, Boeing Co. has found religion. Now, the born-again Boeing enters Chicago's land of diversity, having spent the last few years crossing a sea of adversity and controversy.

For its part, Chicago's corporate community, blessed with the multicultural population that was one of the criteria Boeing sought for its new headquarters, is likely to find the airplane maker's diversity creed an eye-opener, especially given the company's history of discrimination tangles and its roots among a more homogeneous populace.

``I think what Chicago's going to find is that Boeing will quickly become the `best in class' as relates to companies that embrace partnerships with minorities,'' says Ralph G. Moore, whose firm, RGMA Inc., was hired by Boeing to hire contractors and monitor workforce diversity for the new headquarters office.

``The fact that (Chicago has) the diversity, and (based on) the way they've reached out on the renovation of their headquarters, I think you're going to see they're going to raise the bar for all Chicago companies,'' Mr. Moore says.
