The Bank of Japan (BOJ) on Monday downgraded its already gloomy assessment of Japan's economy, citing weak production in the wake of a drop in exports.

''Adjustments in economic activities are gradually intensifying, as production is declining substantially, reflecting a fall in exports,'' the central bank said in a monthly report on economic and financial developments.
