Japan's hotel failures in Jan.-May period hit record high.

The number of hotels and inns going bankrupt in the January-May period came to a record 50, seven more than a year earlier, a private research institute said Thursday.

Total liabilities came to 387.7 billion yen, Teikoku Databank said.
