The U.S. dollar rose slightly against the yen Monday in Tokyo as large-lot dollar purchases by an unidentified investor prompted Japanese banks to follow while motivating others to buy it to cut their losses.

At 5 p.m., the dollar traded at 121.09-12 yen, up from 120.55-65 late Friday in New York....
