Soldiers deserve village's support

My husband is a proud soldier of the Illinois National Guard. He is currently serving a 15-month tour in Iraq.

He is only one of so many brave men and women leaving families to defend others when duty calls. I am one of the many wives, parents and husbands left behind to lead our lives and raise our children until our soldier returns.

Many do not realize that National Guard/Reserve soldiers do not receive the same entitlements as their active-duty counterparts.

As families, we are spread out and grapple with small support systems. Our expenses don't change, even as our soldier's pay probably decreases, once he or she makes the transition from civilian life to military...
