Once upon a time, more than 50 years ago, the hilly region of northeastern Kane County was the scene of a nationally famous racecourse.

It was known as Meadowdale Raceway, and famous drivers from all over the country would come to race their cars there. People who attended that first race in 1953 remember the area as a treeless terrain that would become a Dust Bowl as the autos would speed by. But that time is now gone.

Through environmental grants and local bonds, three groups have purchased a patchwork of land...
