Article Excerpt Tear-downs tearing apart neighborhood
To the editor: Someone needs to tell Mayor Al Larson to wake up, smell the coffee and get into the neighborhoods. Mayor Larson was quoted in the Wednesday, Jan. 12, Daily Herald article titled "Beyond Shopping," saying "we want to build neighborhoods, not just subdivisions."
I'd like to invite his honor, the plan commission, a group that blindly rubber stamps any tear-down replacement plan request it receives, to come on over and take a look at what is called the "W Section" of Schaumburg. Bordered by Springingsguth Road, Schaumburg Road, Walnut and Weathersfield Road, there are no less than 23 houses either under construction, abandoned, waiting to be torn down or new and vacant.
Needless to say, the abandoned houses are an eyesore. How long can these houses stay abandoned? Some of them have been vacant for almost one full...
