Article Excerpt Display's success a group effort
To the editor: The holiday display in North School Park was taken down last week after providing enjoyment to thousands of visitors since Thanksgiving weekend. From the very first holiday display in 1990 to this year's 2004-05 display, design, fabrication, construction and installation have been a team effort. All display pieces are built in-house with great pride by park district staff and installed just prior to the Special Events Commission's tree-lighting ceremony. The annual display and tree- lighting ceremony continue to be a cooperative effort with the village of Arlington Heights. They provide, install and decorate the 30-foot-high tree in the center of the park and install the lights in the streetscape trees around North School Park and throughout the entire downtown area.
Our thanks to the following dedicated and talented park district staff involved in the 2004-05 North School Park holiday display:
- Supervisor Alan Welk from the Davis Street Service Center
- Procurement: Linda Bell.
- Construction and installation: Richard Knox, Raymond Mammoser, Louis Nagy, Charles Reinhold, Russell Skarda, Tony Vondra, Greg Wright, Tom Selzer, Ken Pasternak, Steve Schwiger.
- Extra help for set up: Chris Czajka, Pat Lulling, Matt Schiller, Dale Pingle, Ed Piotrowski, Walt Lauro, Jose Gutierrez and Waldo Garcia.
Plus all the grounds staff that trimmed the park, removed mums and planted bulbs, edged the beds, freshened up with new wood chips in the beds, mowed and mulched the leaves, etc.
Finally, we extend our appreciation to the staff of the Arlington Heights Public Works Department, whose commitment and hard work helped to make this year's North School Park holiday display and downtown lighting display the delight of the entire Arlington Heights community.
