FEB 17: DURAN DURAN

In the pop-music world of the eighties, Duran Duran was the emperor of image control, and the group's controversial music videos, chock-full of extravagant sexuality, propelled the band to stardom. Of course, the songs weren't bad either. Now, Duran Duran returns in support of 2004's come-back record, Astronaut. But let's not kid ourselves. The old-school hits like Rio and Hungry Like the Wolf are all the fans really want to hear. At 8. $39.50-$59.50. Bass Concert Hall, 23rd & Robert Dedman Dr (512-471-1444). (W+)

FEB 19: BRUCE HORNSBY

Of all the ways this musician has been described, our favorite portrayal comes courtesy of The Guardian in London: "A balding, avuncular figure, Hornsby hops between genres like a man with chronic attention deficit disorder." Throughout his career, Hornsby has also hopped in and out of fame's graces, sometimes playing out his successes in the white-hot spotlight, other times guiding his career through a cultlike underground. His 2004 release, Halcyon Days, went fairly mainstream, with a little help from no-name guest artists like Sting, Eric Clapton, and Elton John. At 8. $42-$68. Paramount Theatre, 713 Congress Ave (512-469-7469). (W+)
