With more rooms to fill in 2004 than the year before, San Diego's innkeepers nevertheless rounded out 2004 with a higher occupancy rate than 2003.

However, they dropped from second in 2003 to finish fourth among the nation's top 25 destinations in 2004. Honolulu and Los Angeles-Long Beach, which finished second and third respectively, made greater gains last year due to a nationwide resurgence in air and business travel.
