George Klawitter's recent collection of poems, The Agony of Words, is the work of a poet who pays close attention to the subtleties of strict poetic form. For example, he's willing to experiment with the restraints as well as the rich possibilities that the sonnet allows. His sensitivity to the nuances of meter, line and stanza is clear in every one of the collection's best poems. At times, though, his sometimes-playful and sometimes-longing voice gets wrapped up in its own exuberance.
