The city of Yonkers is looking at breaking out an old tool to radically transform a pair of downtown neighborhoods.

The City Council unanimously voted to allow the Yonkers Community Development Agency (CDA) to start preparing a plan to create two new urban renewal districts in the city, the first new districts in decades.

The agency is also looking at proposing three additional districts, which can ease the way for condemnations and zoning changes in the name of economic development.
