There's now an empty desk drawer in my den at home.
That's where I always toss the sports quotes I think have a chance of making this annual column.
The challenge of putting together these quotes each December requires more discipline than I thought I had at my advanced age of 68. I have too much fun with this particular column, though, to let it disappear into retirement.
I just have to remember to keep looking for quotes on a daily basis. After filing them in that desk at home, I finally take the collection to the office and make my final selections.
That's what you see today.
It's difficult eliminating any quotes collected over the year, but there is this thing called space in every newspaper. I can't abuse it.
Golf and tennis had good years in the quotes world, so I will start that way. After that, you will find a mixed bag of sports represented.
I do not rank these quotes. That's up to you. What are your favorites? Compare your choices with friends.
