Two residents have launched write-in campaigns in hopes of emerging from the Jan. 11 Wayne Township Republican caucus as nominees for two key offices: supervisor and highway commissioner.

The caucus will nominate people to appear on the April 5 election ballot.

The area is dominated by Republicans, so the caucus is viewed as the de facto election for Wayne Township offices.

The township includes parts of Bartlett, Carol Stream, Hanover Park, Wayne, West Chicago, St. Charles, and a large unincorporated area.

Bill Newell, a 12-year township trustee, is waging a write-in campaign for township supervisor against Mary Douglas, who has served as township clerk for the past eight years.

Current Supervisor Glenn Auble is stepping down from his post this spring.
