Research can be done the right way

An editorial from the Springfield State Journal-Register reprinted in the Dec. 18 Daily Herald urges the General Assembly to support Illinois State Comptroller Dan Hynes' proposal to fund stem cell research. The editorial, however, does not differentiate the types of stem cells. There are embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells. Harvesting embryonic stem cells for research means killing a newly developing human being. Adult stem cells are found in many places in the body and can be harvested without killing anyone.
