One of the latest sacrifices San Diego County consumers are willing to make to purchase their own home has to do with the amount of space they're willing to inhabit.

Builders are constructing smaller and smaller units and they're selling as well--maybe even better because of the prices--as larger homes.

"We've had an awful lot of interest. Everything we've released has sold. People are excited about having an ownership opportunity," Sherm Harmer, the president of Urban Housing Partners, said of the 300 condos in Smart Corner, a $129 million mixed-use development in Downtown San Diego.
