Can you downsize Disney and get away with it?

Director Joe Zingo thinks so. He also thinks that it's a good thing that Actors Cabaret of Eugene is staging "Disney's Beauty and the Beast" on a much smaller scale than the spectacular Broadway musical.

``I saw it in New York, and it was too long, I thought,'' Zingo says. ``You wanted it to end. The spectacle was magnificent, but it was so long and so far away that you felt nothing.''

And that's a shame, in Zingo's view, because this beloved fairy tale about the transforming power of love is ``quite poignant.'' He believes that people who see the more intimate Actors Cabaret production ``are going to feel that poignancy.''
