Beginning Sept. 1 of his junior year in high school, the typical Division I-A football recruit can begin receiving literally hundreds of pieces of mail per week from colleges.

The trick for coaches and university staff trying to attract those recruits is to find some way to stand out in the sea of envelopes. For Oregon, that's where director of player development Deryk Gilmore and his staff of students and interns come in.

For the past four years, Gilmore had helped coordinate the Ducks' football recruiting, in part through regular mailings to prospects. Recently, Oregon has raised the bar when it comes to those mailings, eschewing simple letters in favor of correspondence that relies heavily on graphic design.
