Article Excerpt AVX Corporation (Myrtle, Beach, SC, 843-448-9411) (www.avx.com)(NYSE: AVX) has developed a surface mount NTC (negative temperature coefficient) thermistor in a standard EIA 0402 chip size that is specifically designed for temperature sensing, compensation, and control applications in handheld and portable electronic equipment. Such thermistors were introduced in response to end customers' demanding smaller NTCs for use in handheld and other miniature applications, noted Ron Demcko, applications engineering manager at AVX in Raleigh, NC (919-878-6200). Key potential applications for the 0402 surface mount thermistors, designated the NB23 series, include, for example, mobile phones, hard disk drives, laptop computers, and compact disk players.
