This is a very valuable release, as it collects some of the earliest recordings (1900-13) made by some of the most important violinists of the late 19th and very early 20th centuries.
The Hungarian Joseph Joachim (1831-1970) and the Spaniard Pablo de Sarasate (1844-1908), two of the most important violinists of the second half of the 19th Century, are represented here by all of their recordings, vintage 1903. My understanding is that 1902 is the pivotal year in the history of recording. Before then, every copy of each record had to be made in the recording studio and could not be reproduced.
