I do not normally write letters to journals in response to reviews because I believe reviewers work hard to give as fair a write-up as possible about a book. However, I was quite disturbed by a part of the review of my book, Free at Last!: Stories and Songs of Emancipation (Candlewick). The reviewer wrote, "Frustratingly, Rappaport scatters source citations, which appear variously in an introduction, acknowledgments, permissions, and 'selected sources.'
