...results. But in March of 2003, I began to get sick. I was having muscle spasms, went to the doctor, and was given muscle relaxers. In April of 2003, I broke out with a very painful rash and was diagnosed with shingles. I couldn't go to work for weeks. I was told that anyone could get shingles but it was most prevalent among the elderly. I was also under a bit of stress and was told that shingles could be related to stress. In May, 2003, just before I was released to return to work, my job was terminated. I had been an Assistant Program Director for a Mental Health Foundation assigned to the Psychiatric Emergency Room at San Francisco General Hospital. Talk about stress! I was angry at first, then relieved realizing how stressful my work was.
