Merger and acquisition transaction volume in the industrial test and measurement (T&M) industry increased nearly 9% for the nine months ending September 30, 2004, compared to the previous year, a trend that is likely to continue according to a report released in December by Robert W. Baird & Co. (Milwaukee, WI, 1-800-RWBAIRD) (www.rwbaird.com).
Citing the ongoing rebound in industrial production, growing revenue and profitability of industrial T&M companies, and increased interest in acquisitions among both strategic and financial buyers, the Baird report predicts that both the number and dollar value of M&A transactions will continue to experience healthy growth over the next three years. Contributing to the consolidation trend is the highly fragmented nature of the industry, comprised of more than 2,000 companies in the U.S. and another 1,000 in Europe and Asia.
