TAIPEI, Dec 31 Asia Pulse - Minister of Economic Affairs Ho Mei-yueh said Thursday that electricity and water rates face pressure to be increased, but added that it will be up to the new Cabinet to decide if and when such hikes are made.

Ho made the remarks after she reported to the caucus whip of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party about government policy on adjusting electricity and water rates.

She had said a day earlier that electricity and water rates will be raised, drawing immediate criticism from the opposition, but noted that Premier Yu Shyi-kun has said he will not address the issue during his term...
