Award-winning builder rebuilds home for So Cal fire victims.

It's been a more than a year since devastating fires hit the inland neighborhoods of San Diego County, forcing thousands of area residents out of their homes and then on the grueling path toward reconstruction. Thanks to the generous efforts of Carlsbad-based Barratt American, one local family remembered the fires from the comfort of their brand new home.

Construction was completed in August and the keys were turned over to the Peowski family for a 2,725-square-foot home that was originally built by Barratt American 15 years ago. Located in the Deer Creek Highlands neighborhood along Harbison Canyon, the home is slightly larger than the residence bought by owners Ed and Cindy Peowski two and a half years ago.

The couple was married in the backyard of the original home and had just completed expansion and remodeling work when the fire destroyed all that they had done.
