Bright future predicted for auto manufacturing in state.

According to industry experts, it's not if but when another automotive assembly plant will locate in Mississippi--and the South.

"Quite frankly, I think everyone should be optimistic," said Buzz Canup, p2resident of Canup & Associates Inc., and project director of the Nissan Implementation Team. "'There could potentially be another automotive plant coming to Mississippi. The state, through the incentive package it offered Nissan, has put in place some very attractive incentives that would certainly be beneficial to any automotive manufacturer that could meet the threshold criteria as defined in the legislation.

"The state is also rapidly developing a strong supplier base to support the Nissan project. Most likely, they're supplying other manufacturers as well, and that's certainly another plus. The presence of a supplier network obviously provides opportunity for another auto manufacturer to come in and negotiate with those suppliers to also provide parts for them, probably at a cost advantage."
