One problem with democracy is that individuals who are a poor fit for high public office will occasionally manage to get elected. Many thousands of Lane County residents feel that President George W. Bush is such a person. Not only did our fellow citizens have this opinion, they acted on it.

Local folks came out in droves, determined to terminate a presidency they believe is marred by pre-emptive war, social division, crippling deficits, attacks on civil liberties, assaults on the environment and the frightening concentration of wealth and power into fewer and fewer hands.
