At Mount Bachelor, resort operators are urging skiers to do a "snow dance," and at Hoodoo Ski Area, lift operators burned some old skis in the hopes of awakening the snow gods. At Willamette Pass where a patchy 3-inch-thin rag of snow lay across the base area on Monday, maintenance workers remained hopeful.

"I try to be a realist," mountain manager Ray Gardner said. "I try to get up every morning and deal with what Mother Nature gives me, and her and I have some arguments."
