Virgil Tharp

SPRINGFIELD - The funeral will be Nov. 30 for Virgil Alvin Tharp of Springfield, who died Nov. 23 of age-related causes. He was 90.

He was born March 24, 1914, in Willamina to Alvin and Helen Lockhart Tharp. He married Amy Street in Dallas, Ore., on Oct. 25, 1934.

Tharp lived in Willamina before moving to Springfield in 1960. He was employed as a truck foreman at Murphy Logging Co. for 47 years.

He enjoyed hunting, crabbing, fishing, camping and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Eagles and Elks.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Virgil "John" of Toledo and Timothy of Willamina; and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Tuesday's service will be at 1 p.m. at Major Family Funeral Home in Springfield. A private burial will be held...
