Bletchley Park, the most secret nerve centre of British wartime intelligence will today be awarded a grant under the Lottery's Home Front Recall scheme to commemorate the centre's vital role in breaking the top secret German Enigma code, providing crucial information towards the allied war effort.

The GBP20,000 award was made today as part of a GBP7.3 million joint funding initiative from Lottery good cause distributors the Big Lottery Fund* and the Heritage Lottery Fund. The scheme provides grants to fund activities across the UK to commemorate the part played by those on the home front during the war years - among them veteran fire fighters, auxiliary services, nurses, Bevin Boys, dock workers, ex-service clubs and people in many other roles.

Now an exhibition centre, Bletchley Park will use the award to provide its wartime veterans with commemorative activities including service medals to mark the invaluable code-breaking feat by Bletchley's veterans. Historians say they helped shorten the Second World War by...
