It's the holiday season and that can only mean one thing for Mona Rummel: handmade hats and a lot of them - knitted hats, crocheted hats, stocking hats and candy cane "Sunday swirl" hats with pompoms on top.

"Sometimes some of them come in so tiny, they're kind of like doll hats," said Rummel, the owner of the Soft Horizons Fibre store on East 13th Avenue.

For 14 years now, Rummel and her staff have collected hundreds of hats to be donated to kids who could use a little extra warmth. Dubbed Caps for Kids, the program has given out more than 15,000 hats and united...
