Escondido Mayor Lori Holt Pfeiler grew up wanting to be a politician.

"When I was in fifth grade, I read many biographies about political leaders," Pfeiler said. "I was impressed by the decisions that were made and the effect they had on people's lives."

Pfeiler spent most of her grade school years in Chula Vista. Her father accepted a job with the city of Escondido when she was a seventh-grader.
