The showdown in Old Town: hearing over lucrative concessions package nears for powers, Delaware North.

If there's any stress involved in running a 32-year-old company that employs a staff of more than 500 without knowing how much longer you'll be able to stay in business at the same location, Diane Powers won't admit it.

As Bazaar del Mundo's founder and owner, Powers protested the decision by the state Department of Parks and Recreation to award the 12-acre Old Town State Historic Park's concession contract to another vendor. But Powers is confident Bazaar del Mundo, which generated some $27 million in revenues in 2003, won't soon be vacating San Diego's Old Town and its annual draw of some 6 million visitors.

If Bazaar del Mundo does not prevail, however, the company, including 16 shops and four restaurants, will continue "at another location," she said. "But I'm not ready to collapse my tent and pack up."
