A great way to remember the great Brian Schuett.

That smile. That wonderfully toothy smile.

Jan Schuett will never forget how much her son Brian would smile on the soccer field.

"I remember this one time when he was like 5 or 6 years old, he ran off the field after a game and he was all happy and smiling and he said, 'So did we win or did we lose?'" Schuett said of her son. "It was so cute. Winning didn't matter at all to him. He just loved playing soccer. Just getting to play made him so happy."

It did for his entire life.

Brian Schuett continued to find great joy in soccer as he moved up the ranks - from youth leagues to traveling teams to the high school program at Libertyville.

How fitting it is then that there will now be a permanent reminder of Schuett at a place that made him the happiest.

On June 29, 2001, Schuett died from injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident in Mundelein. He was 17 years old and just a few months away from beginning his senior season as a defender for the Libertyville varsity team.

On Saturday, the Libertyville Township Soccer Complex will formally rename Field 14 "Brian Schuett Field." The field is home to Libertyville's varsity boys and girls soccer teams.
