One of the most honored young American composers, Aaron Jay Kernis, will be the featured artist Monday at the final concert in the Chicago Chamber Musicians' 2004 "Composer Perspective" series.

In a program titled "Dramatic Harmony," Kernis will conduct one of his own major works; the concert also will contain music by two composers who have greatly influenced his career, Jacob Druckman and Arvo Part.

Kernis is making his first professional Chicago appearance since November 2002, when guest conductor Lorin Maazel led the Chicago Symphony in a song cycle for soprano and orchestra, titled "Simple Songs."

The centerpiece of Monday's concert will be Kernis' theater piece, "Goblin Market," written for a 14-piece chamber ensemble with narrator,...
