This is a chance to affect the future. And I don't mean going to the polls Tuesday, either, though I think that's vitally important as well.

On Saturday, Peck Farm Park is holding its annual prairie seed collection, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the park on Kaneville Road.

Those who would like to help are asked to call Peck Farm Park at (630) 262-8244 so park officials know how many to expect. Refreshments will be served, so a head count is handy.

Volunteers will first listen to a short program, then spend about an hour collecting seeds from a few select areas, "basically those areas that are looking strong and looking good," said park manager Michael Kirschman.
