So your portfolio needs more diversification, and the words of your grandfather continue to faintly ring in your head: "buy real estate." This process allows you to develop a passive income stream that hopefully leads to early retirement. Numerous strategies exist and you must decide where your comfort level is.

There are a few things to consider for any type of unit you buy. All are aimed at keeping yourself from being upside-down on a monthly basis. If it costs you $100 per month to own a unit, there are only so many units you can afford.
