Civic leaders will likely ask private businesses to help fund the effort to keep San Diego's military bases from closing.

The community's Washington, D.C.-based lobbyist met privately with government officials and defense contractors Oct. 17 in El Cajon to talk about the effort. During the session, one speaker gave "a generalized notice they're going to need help from companies as time goes on," according to Mike Woiwode, past president of San Diego's National Defense Industrial Association chapter, who was in attendance.
