Before installing a solar electric generation system last year, Corporate Computer Centers, Inc. of San Diego paid between $900 and $1,500 a month for electricity.

The company's bill now dips as low as $18.22 a month. The highs hit $200.

Corporate Computer Centers installed the 40-kilowatt photovoltaic system in August 2002. During normal business hours, the system meets all the company's needs--powering a 14,000-square-foot building in Mira Mesa.

Sometimes the system, which cost $356,000, makes excess electricity, so the company's meter runs backwards.

Using the sun to power the company made sense environmentally, said Jay Roach, one of Corporate Computer Centers' principals.
