Atlas Steel Products has fared better than most service centers recently because of strategic decisions set in motion a few years ago, when the aluminized steel specialist decided to add stain less steel to its line and begin manufacturing its own tubing.

"The decisions to build on a solid base of aluminized steel by moving up the temperature and corrosion problem chart with stainless steel, and to begin producing our own tubular products, were key factors in helping us weather the worst steel storm in 40 years," says Lawrence J. "Bo" Burr, president and CEO of the Twinsburg, Ohio, company.

Just as companies that sell ice are actually selling a means to keep items cold, he says, Atlas specializes in aluminized and stainless steel to give customers' products heat and corrosion resistance.
