It is either sad or amusing to hear about traffic and parking concerns regarding the siting of a new basketball arena to replace McArthur Court. Doesn't anyone know that The Pit, at a little over 9,000 capacity, only sells out for a few big games per year (perhaps more than a few if the team is doing well)?

A 15,000-seat arena will produce no ticket-buying urgency, it will be perennially half-full and very quiet, and considering Mac Court's rancorous legacy it will also be rather pitiful. The planners and financiers will be left to look about at the empty seats and wonder, "What have...
