COTTAGE GROVE - Marie Champion is wearing a lavender sweat jacket when she greets you.

It makes perfect sense. There's pale purple everywhere.

In the greenhouses, in the fields. It's even bottled.

Actually, when lavender flowers are made into oil, it's pretty much clear, but if the color purple had a smell, it would be like this - strong and pungent and flowery.

Champion Acres is the place you want to be, if you are indeed looking for lavender. Marie Champion and her husband, Denny, along with their 28-year-old son, Nathan, specialize in lavender on their 23-acre farm just east of town. In fact, they grow about 90 different varieties of lavender.
